LONDON CONCOURS

From 4th to 6th June, at the Honourable Artillery Company in East London, the 8th edition of London Concours hosted a range of celebrity-own classics, including a special Zagato Class, that showcased the Atelier rich history of designs that pushed the envelope, from the 1950s up until the current day. Andrea Zagato, grandson of founder Ugo Zagato and current President of the Company, was part of the jury of the Concours. Highlights of the display included the 1958 Abarth 750 Zagato with its distinctive “double bubble” roof design, and the 1960 Bristol 406 Zagato, a unique blend of British engineering and Italian design. The 1991 Alfa Romeo S.Z., a brutalist masterpiece, with its angular lines and striking presence, showcased Zagato’s willingness to push design boundaries, together with its sister R.Z.. The Aston Martin Zagato saga was featured thanks to the special presence of three models: the 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato - built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic AML DB4GT Zagato - the 2017 Vanquish Zagato Coupé and the Vanquish Speedster Zagato, manufactured in 28 units. One of the rarest modern Ferraris of all, won the Zagato Class: the Ferrari 550 GTZ Soft Top, created in 2007 to commemorate both the 60th anniversary of Ferrari, and the 80th anniversary of the relationship between Enzo Ferrari and Ugo Zagato. With its curvaceous barchetta body and its electric hydraulic top, the 550 GTZ was made in just 3 units, with only this one in RHD configuration. On this occasion, Zagato presented its latest project, with the display of the scale model of AGTZ Twin Tail based on Alpine. This project pays homage to Le Mans glorious past of Alpine A220 with a pioneering approach, incorporating in one car literally two souls, thanks to the removable tail, that permits to change from long tail and short tail mode. The production run of 19 units is in progress.
